WEEKLY NEWS 11!!

Scarlett Moffat, Queen of The Jungle.

Scarlett Moffatt was crowned the 2016 queen of the jungle after beating Adam Thomas and Joel Dommet in I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Scarlett received her crown form the previous winner of I'm a Celebrity Vicky Patterson. According tot he viewers votes, Scarlett was set to win as was the favourite throughout the show. However there has been some controversy with Scarlett being given more airtime to make sure that she had the majority vote. Scarlett Moffat is set to make more TV appearances following her win, but has also announced that she will not be returning back to Gogglebox.

The top three contestants, Scarlett, Adam and Joel, were also favourites to be in the final but things changed when Joel beat adam for second place sparking rumours about the show being fixed. Scarlett Moffatt said through out the show that she has always been a fan of I'm a Celebrity and that it was surreal to her that she was on the show. According to The Mirror, Scarlett has been accused of lying about her fears so that she could gain the sympathy vote, However, through out the show she came across as a genuine person who was not acting up for the cameras but just being herself. Adam's brother, Ryan Thomas, was the first to back Adam when he took to twitter saying the show was a fix. Adam took part in 11 bush tucker trials and was also a contender for the I'm A Celeb title.
She also got slammed, according to The Sun, for being a bully after Martin accused her of bullying him throughout the show. However, she responded back positively that she couldn't understand why Martin would think that because she herself had been bullied in the past and thats how they bonded together. Scarlett has responded back to the hate positively explaining that she was just being herself.

In my opinion I think Scarlett deserved to win I'm a celeb as, despited her fears, she managed to complete the trials and challenges. She wasn't the under dog in the show as she was a clear favourite, but she did get allot of back lash from people saying she wasn't really a celebrity.

I'm a Celebrity.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here is a British reality TV show broadcasted on ITV. It was first aired in 2002 and has been hosted by Ant and Dec since then. The TV show puts celebrities into the jungle in Australia in which they complete bizarre and grotesque tasks in order to win food and prizes. ITV usually show programmes that are more about entertainment rather than facts and I'm a Celebrity fits in with ITV's channel identity. I'm a celebrity could be argued to be part documentary as the audience is observing how the celebrities act and react within the camp. However, the majority of the show is set up as they are made to do tasks and challenges in order to get the entertainment to draw in an audience.

Audience:
In the first episode of I'm a celebrity the audience is introduced to the celebrities that are featured in the current years series. This is when the audience get to decide who they are rooting for to win. This is important because as part of the appeal and targeting the show is interactive in the sense that the audience are able to vote for their favourite celebrity to stay or to vote for the next celebrity to do the trial. By allowing the audience to vote means that it appeals to the audience because they have a say/contributions as to what happens in the show. The choice of celebrities also is important because the fans of the celebrities will be more attracted to watch the show meaning tha
t I'm a Celebrity is drawing more people in and getting the ratings they need. By having more well known celebs means a larger audience watching the show.
This show is for pure entertainment so attracts and audience who want to be entertained rather than educated. This is part of the users and gratification theory. This is significant as most TV shows are used to educate and audience but I'm a Celebrity doesn't as it is part of ITV's channel identity to show entertainment.
I'm a Celebrity doesn't have any specifically themed episodes but each time the show is aired it contains different tasks and challenges for the celebs to face. What is also significant is that I'm a Celeb is a Live show. This combined with the different tasks they face is significant when it comes to the audience because it means that it can attract a larger audience as there is a possibility that anything cold happen or go wrong during the show.

Text:
The genre of I'm a Celebrity is a mix of game show and reality. The game show genre is shown through the different trials they face and the reality part is shown when the celebrities are in the camp socialising. The genre is important as it links with the users and gratification theory as ti will draw in a their target audience.
Within the show there is a balanced ratio of women to men. This means that each gender is shown equally and doesn't enforce any gender stereotypes (the idea that men are stronger than women). Also there are a mixed ages within the group of celebrities, the oldest being 68 and the youngest 23. However in this years line up there is a clear unbalance between Race and Ethnicity. This important because the show has been diverse when it comes to age and have also had a balanced gender ratio but when it comes to race and ethnicity it is really focused on. This is important because it shows the under representation of race and ethnicity on TV.
As mentioned previously the celebrities are introduced at the start of the series. Straight away we see the establishment of characters, which is important because the audience want to know who they are going to be watching. The audience also get some history from the celebrities as they are shown what they are famous for and what they can bring to the show. This is important as again it helps the audience decide who they want to back.

Industry:
I'm a celebrity has a spin off show on ITV2 called I'm a Celebrity Extra camp. The shows presenters are three previous winners of I'm a celebrity (Joe Swash, Stacey Solomon and Vicky Patterson) along with a fourth presenter, comedian Chris Ramsey. The spin off shows include extra details about the years I'm a Celeb contestants and also show the presenters taking part in some of the trials previously seen on I'm a Celeb. This is significant because it means that the audience are able to get more of the show when it has finished. They are drawing in more viewers and making more money as people are switching channels to catch more of I'm a celeb.

AMY!!

Amy.

Key Cast: Amy Winehouse. Mitch Wine House, Tyler James
Director: Asif Kapadia
Genre: Documentary
Themes: Addiction, Music, Death, Fame
Release: July 2015
Budget: $2.3-$3.1 million

Key Scene:
A key scene in this film is when Amy was in an interview and she said "The only thing I am good for is singing". This is important because from the previous parts of the documentary the audience see that it was the fame that caused her to go on a downwards spiral. This quote and the scene shows that she never wanted the fame and all she wanted was to sing and make music. This makes the audience feel sympathy for Amy as we know that the media played a massive part (negative) in her life and her story. It showed that she never really wanted fame but was sucked into it.
Another key scene is when she won the grammy for best record of the year in 2008. The audience gets to see her reaction and her response to winning the Grammy. Originally she looks completely stunned by the fact that she won and then goes on to thank and hug everyone around her. This is important because it is a major award and she was up against other big names. However, when the audience is told behind the scenes that Amy was not as happy as she appeared, again we feel sympathy. She says that without drugs that the event is boring. We feel sympathy because she should be happy that she won a major award but instead all she can think about is drugs. Her life was taken over by her addiction with drugs and alcohol.

What is important about the documentary 'Amy' is that it highlights a major issue as it shows the viewers the other side of fame. Fame is made out to be amazing as you can get and do what ever you want and you have loads of fans. However, this documentary shows that it's not all great and that the media can be harsh towards celebrities. The videos gathered in this documentary showing the paparazzi harassing Amy and people making fun out of the problems she was facing shows the negative side of fame. We see how the media, fame and parts of her family and friends failed her which makes us feel more sympathetic as the audience sees the negative events leading up to her death. The film shows the destructive nature of fame by showing the negative impact it had on Amy Winehouse.

WEEKLY NEWS 10!!

The Killer the Police Missed.

BBC news looked at the serial killer Stephen Port who managed to trick the police into thinking he was not responsible for the deaths of four men.
In the summer of 2014, the bodies of two men were found in a church yard in the space of three weeks. The men were both in their 20's and were gay. The bodies were positioned in the same way in the grave yard but the deaths were considered as non-suspicious by the police. They ruled it as a suicide as there was a note explaining that Gabriel Kovari had died after an overdose an then Daniel Whitworth had taken drugs to end his life.
However, a year later, Jack Taylor's body was found in the same circumstances. But the connection between these three cases was the body of Anthony Walgate who was died before any of the others who was found 500m from the church outside the flat of Stephen Port. Port had managed to trick the police with a cover up that should have been easily figured out by the police.
The police did question Port and took DNA samples but no further action was taken and the death was not treated as a murder.
This news story is important because it shows how a serial killer managed to easily trick the police into thinking that he had nothing to do with the murders. It could be argued that the police did not fully investigate the death of Walgate which meant Port was able to go on to kill three other men. If Port was caught sooner the deaths would have been avoided.

Channel Identities.

BBC One:
BBC One is funded by the people paying TV Licenses which therefore means they don't have to have advertisements on the channel because they don't need to make money to fund them like other channels do. They are a non-commercial channel.

BBC Two:
It is also a non-commercial channel and is self funded like BBC One. The shows shown on BBC Two are often spin offs from BBC One shows such as Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. BBC Two is also shows 'High Brow' shows such as documentaries which is used to attract and older audience.

ITV:
Unlike BBC One/Two, ITV is a commercial channel, meaning that they are funded by businesses/companies paying for their adverts to be shown. ITV doesn't follow the educational remit like BBC one and Two do as it usually focuses on more the entertainment side rather than factual.

Channel Four:
Channel Four also relies on advertising as to fund the channel. The channel aims themselves at a younger audience as they show content that aren't usually shown on other channels such as Sex box. They also usually try to make this content educational as to give the shows purpose.

Channel five:
Channel five is a more formal than channel four. Channel five shows crime programmes and some American shows in order to grab the attention of a different audience that all the channels listed above don't necessarily reach.

Netflix:
Netflix differs from the other TV channels listed as it is not really classed as a TV channel as it is shown online. However, Netflix still provides films and TV shows just like the other channels do. Netflix buy the films or TV shows  in order to be allowed to show them. Netflix buy the most popular films or shows to draw in a audience so that they subscribe to Netflix. This is how Netflix is funded.

WEEKLY NEWS 9!!

Suicide attack in Afghanistan kills dozen

BBC news have reported a suicide bomber has killed at least 27 people at a Shia Muslim mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul. There were at least 35 other people where injured in the attack which came as worshippers gathered for a religious ceremony. The attacker blew himself up in the crowded area towards the end of a service for Imam Hussein. IS has said to be behind the attack that took place on Monday. Many people were praying right before the explosion took place and witnesses said that there was a loud bang followed by a dust cloud.
This is an important news story because BBC news has also reported that the attack that took place on Monday is part of a string of attacks including a mass shooting killing 14 people and another suicide bombing which killed 80 people.

Media Proposal.

Media Proposal

Statement: The representation of women within music videos objectify and over-sexualise women (with reference to 'Blurred Lines'- Robin Thicke, 'Not the Only One'- Sam Smith and 'Bad Blood'- Taylor Swift).

Last Year: Created a poster and dvd cover for my film 'Blonde'

Production Plan: Create a music video that focuses on the representation of women. In my research I found out that most music videos use women's body image and looks to represent women. Using this, I want to create a music video focusing on body image.
My plan for my music video, it will only feature women as that is a main part in my project. I also plan to follow the idea that women are forced to look a certain way, so in my music video I will mask parts of the subject's body, by using images that are considered to be the perfect body type (e.g using barbies face and/or pictures of the 'perfect body'. This will back up my point that most music videos focus on body image. At the beginning of the music video I will follow the general negative depiction of women by focusing on body image, however, I also plan to go against what is seen in most music videos by making the depiction of women more positive by discarding all the negative images that have already been used. I want  to show both sides to the representation of women.

My music video won't have a set narrative. Although it will show the progression of women, there is no clear story line behind it. Instead I will use a series of the same shots but showing different people. The shots wont be stills but there will be little movement or acting within them until the music video starts to become more positive. This will show the progression.

I plan to spend a week for each of the stages (pre-production, production and post-production) but I think that the editing may take a bit longer as there will be a lot of clips to edit and put together.

WEEKLY NEWS 8!!

Protests in Manhattan.

BBC news reported on the protests taking place in Manhattan following the news that Donald Trump has become the 45th President of the United States. Roughly 2,000 people are marching through the streets of New York shouting 'He is not my President'. BBC news also reported that American cities have seen nightly protests by people furious at the new Presidents controversial policies. Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton was a shock after opinion polls favoured Mrs Clinton in becoming the next President. Donald Trump has been responding to some of the issues the protestors have brought forward, saying he is open to leave key parts of 'Obama Care' and has also said that e will focus on more important priorities such as healthcare and border control.

The news report based on the protest is important because there has been allot of controversy based around the election and the people running for the Presidential role. It was clear that there was a divide between voters and that there would be some issues no matter who was elected to become the next President of the United States.

WEEKLY NEWS 7!!

US election: America votes for president.

More than 46 million people have voted to chose the next president of America. According to BBC news, this years election has been the most hostile, due to all the controversy surrounding the candidates running to be the next president. Mrs Clinton urged voters to back a " Hopeful, inclusive, big hearted America'. Whilst Trump told supporters that they have a 'chance to beat the corrupt system'. Clinton has a four point lead over Trump and a high number of hispanics have turned up to vote, presumably in favour of Mrs Clinton.
I think that the presidential news is important to keep up with as the candidates running have both had controversy spread about them and it has created a divide between people. The past news of the run up to the election has highlighted a lot of negative impacts including hate crimes and violence towards certain supporters. Who ever becomes president will have a massive impact on America and possibly the rest of the world.

GOGGLEBOX

Gogglebox.

Gogglebox is a British T.V show, shown on Channel 4 since 2013. The show looks at couples and families reacting to current television programs. The T.V show is set in the living rooms of the families and captures the thoughts and opinions from various different people of different race, ethnicity, gender and class. The show is a form of observational documentary as the camera only captures what unfolds in front of it. Even though the setting may be planned and the people know they are being filmed, nothing is scripted allowing the audience to see real life reactions.

The show reaches a large target audience as it can appeal to everyone as most people can relate to the scenarios that we see on the show. It appeals to a mass target because there are universal themes within the show. Gogglebox also show the reactions to some of the most popular TV shows including X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. This again adds makes the audience more interested in Gogglebox because they can see whether they agree or disagree with the people on the show. Gogglebox is filmed a week in advanced so that the audience can watch people reacting to the latest programs and news. This makes it more relevant for the audience because they are showing current topics which everyone are talking about.

In the episodes of Gogglebox, we are introduced to the family by first seeing the outside of the house. This gives the audience an idea of the different families included in the show. The idea behind the show is for the audience to watch people reacting to TV. However, the concept of the show may sound boring to some of the audience, so they add personalities in, which makes it more interesting to watch. By showing the houses of the people the audience is about to meet, shows them that they are using real people and families all of whom are different. The personality aspect to the show allows the audience to relate to the people they are seeing.
The characters we also see on Gogglebox are all very diverse. The characters include: and elderly husband and wife, a gay couple and a posh upper class family. BY having a diverse range of people on the show means that the audience is bound to be able to relate to certain people on the show. It also means that the audience can hear the opinions of different generations, backgrounds and class.

The show won a BAFTA award in 2014 and a national television award in 2015.

Scheduling.

Scheduling.

Scheduling: Arrange or plan (an event) to take place at a particular time.

Scheduling allows tv shows to plan in advance when they are going to show their tv shows. The schedules are not just important for TV itself but for the audience to have a clear layout and plan as to what they can watch when.

Scheduling is important when it comes to tv because they need to be made in order to fit the individual tv shows target audience. For example, popular soaps such as Eastenders and Coronation street are targeted at an older working class audience, which means that they have to be shown at a time when people get off work and are at home. However, a tv soap still has to compete with other tv soaps meaning that the schedule has to be based around when the audience will watch them. Television programmes have to predict which programmes viewers might watch in blocks (watching one show and going into another after the previous one is finished). By having a schedule based around when an audience will most likely watch a programme means that the show is getting as many viewers as possible. The aim in constructing the schedule is to secure the highest possible amount of viewer for each tv show on different channels and network. It could be a big issue if the scheduling is wrong as it wouldn't reach the correct target audience meaning that the show/programme won't get the viewers it needs to be successful.

Tv schedules are also based around advertisements. A lot of businesses will want to advertise their products/service during the advert breaks between popular tv shows. The advertising slots will be made months in advanced so that the tv network can make the most money. This links with scheduling because if the schedule is correct and can reach the majority of their target audience, advertisers will want to pay more money to get the slot where more people are likely to see the ad. With this money from the advertisements, the tv networks can make or buy more shows to put on their channel and gain an even larger audience, which will again generate more money.

Hammocking- Putting a new, or less popular show on between two popular shows, so that the viewers watching the first tv show watch the less popular or new tv show waiting to watch the next program.
Inheritance- Putting a new or less popular tv show after a popular program hoping that the viewers will stay on the channel and continue watching the new or less popular show.
Stripping- When a program is shown at the same time each day. This is often used for talk shows or shows like NCIS or Criminal Minds.

WEEKLY NEWS 6!!

Ipswich killer Steve Wright's father urges him to confess

The Father of killer, Steve Wright, wants his son to admit the killing of five sex workers. Steve is serving life in jail for the murders but has yet to admit to killing the five girls 10 years ago. The five girls went missing over a period of six weeks, the first being Tania Nicol (19) disappearing on the 30th of October 2006. Steve Wright has admitted to sleeping with four of the five girls but has not admitted to their murder. Conrad Wright (Father) said that admitting the murders is the 'only thing' he could do, but Conrad will not forgive him for his actions. Conrad also explains how Steve would act clueless as if he didn't know what was going on and that he only wants the truth form his son.
I think this story is important because this was a major story and now that it has been 10 years since the murders it is sill important as although murderer was caught there has still been no justification to his actions and why he did it. Also the BBC news report shows how because of Steve's actions it has not only just ruined his victims (families) life but his fathers.

WEEKLY NEWS 5!!

Three people arrested after 16 year old girl dies in hospital.

Three people were charged with drug offences after, Shellie Callaghan, 16 years old, died from possibly taking ecstasy tablets. She dies in hospital on Saturday after falling ill at a party. A 42 year old, a 17 year old and a 16 year old were arrested when properties were searched following the deaths. The police are investigating the 16 year old's death and how she was able to get hold of the drugs. A large quantity of drugs were seized after the searches and the police urge people to not take the drugs similar to the ones seized.
This news story is important because it shows how easy it is for people to get hold of dangerous drugs and how dangerous the drugs can be to a persons life. Stories like this show that drugs can actually cause serious harm and death which allot of people underestimate. I think that laws related to drugs should be allot more harsh as it would deter people form using or selling them.

WEEKLY NEWS 4!!

Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

BBC news reported on the deaths and damages of the hurricane in Haiti. At least 900 people died and at least 350,000 people need aid along with tens and thousands of homes being destroyed. The hurricane caused major flooding, power cuts and destroyed buildings. The strong winds reached up to 145 mph which caused buildings to collapse. Haiti has gone into 3 days of national mourning and has requested aid for the people who have been left with nothing. Because of the strong hurricane (category 4) sewers and pipes where damaged and the main worry now is Cholera. At least 13 people have died form the disease since the hurricane. The hurricane moved up to the southern coast of the US which reportedly killed 10 people.
This is an important news story because not only has Haiti have to worry about the damages and the deaths caused by the hurricane, but they have to worry about the after effects including Cholera which killed 10,000 after the 2010 earthquake. Also allot of crops were damaged meaning that Haiti is left with not allot of food to last them and they are without water, which is another major concern.

WEEKLY NEWS 3!!

Trump may have avoided tax for 18 years.

An american newspaper says it has documents showing Donald Trump declaring a loss of more the $900 in 1995 on his federal tax return. The newspaper said that Trump's loss was so large that it could have allowed him to avoid paying tax for 18 years legally. Trumps campaign refuse to publish any records and he has neither confirmed or denied theses reports. During the presidential debate Hillary accused him of not paying income tax to which Trump replied "That makes me smart'. This could imply his true intentions.
I think this is an important news story because he is running to be the next president of. If Trump cant follow the rules or is honest to people about the situation then how can he be expected to run the country properly. There is so much controversy with Trump to begin with because of his ideas extreme ideas, so adding this on to his reputation makes him even ore controversial.

Great British Bake Off

Great British Bake Off. (GBBO)

GBBO is a weekly TV show, shown Mid-week at 20:00. 10.4 million people watched the first episode of 2016 making it the most watched series opener in the shows history. A further 4.1 million people then stayed on to watch the Chronicles of Nadia on BBC1 which is hosted by Nadia the winner of last years GBBO.

In the first episode of series 7, the audience is introduced to the new competitors of the GBBO. Eight out of the 12 of them are white and the other 3 are from other backgrounds. This could be to show that they are trying to make GBBO more diverse but yet there is still an unbalance as there are also white presenters and judges. Because of the title of the show is ' Great British Bakeoff', the show is trying to show stereotypical British things. Through out the episodes of GBBO there are bunting flags with the Union Jack on them to try and enforce the idea that the show is proudly British. Also the place in which GBBO is filmed is a country side with bright green grass and lots of colourful flowers to create the idea that this is what the whole of Britain looks like. It is following the stereotypes that people think about Britain (which is posh and elegant).

The target audience for this show is around 20-30 year old women. This is because baking is a traditionally and stereotypically a female interest/activity although we see men on the show. The GBBO includes global themes and interests so the show could appeal to everyone but throughout the show there are references to mature jokes (references to page 3 jokes). The 20-30 year old audience are likely to pick up on the jokes and references unlike a younger or older audience. However even though the target audience is 20-30 year olds women doesn't mean it attracts a different audience.

WEEKLY NEWS 2!!

North Carolina police shoot a black man after wife tells them not to shoot.

BBC news released a video of Keith Scott being shot by North Carolina Police after his wife Rakeyia Scott recorder the event begging the police not to shoot. The police where searching for another person wanted for arrest and there are conflicts about the events that led up to the death of Keith Scott. In the video the police asked Keith to drop the gun he was holding whereas his wife insisted that he did not have a gun. Following this death, people protested and chanted 'No justice, No peace'. Protestors have asked for the police dash cams to be released to the public so people can see what really happened but the police have defended themselves on why the video should not be released. This is one of many other serious cases where police are being accused of wrong full killing.

In my opinion, I think that there is a problem in America especially over gun laws and police corruption. Recently, there has been a massive increase in the amount of incidents that have taken place regarding the police and black males. I think that the police in America are abuse their power but also aren't given the right training to deal with situations similar to this one.

Weekly News 1!!

Penalty points and fines are to double for texting drivers.

BBC news along with other news reporters have reported that there is to be a more harsh punishment for people who text and drive. This is after many families who are victims of texting and driving have complained that the punishment didn't go far enough for the people who broke the law. The new rules that are due to be enforced within the next year will mean drivers will receive six points on their licence an a £200 fine.
In this BBC news report it also includes stories from people who have been affected by people driving and texting. One story included, was about a man who was jailed for nine years after admitting to death by dangerous driving. He has also had 6 previous convictions to do with texting and driving. This indicates that the punishment for breaking texting and driving was not severe enough to deter people from doing it again.

In my opinion I that the punishment for texting and driving needs to be more harsh as it can cause as much damage as drink driving can. People think that looking at their phone for a few seconds wont cause any problems but from the stories on the BBC news website shows otherwise. The punishment needs to be more severe so that people know that texting and driving is a serious offence and that it is dangerous. If the punishment doesn't have a big consequence it wont stop people from doing it. I agree with the new rule that the punishment should be doubled.

Four Lions.

Four Lions.

Key Cast: Will Adamsdale, Riz Ahmed and Adeel Akhtar.
Director: Christopher Morris
Writer: Christopher Morris
Genre: Comedy Drama
Themes: Friendship, Family, Religion
Release: May 2010
Budget:

The satirical drama is about suicide bombers who are planing an attack. Although the film touches on a serious topic it has comedic elements which mocks the audience's ideas of the Islamic religion. The film focuses more about the act of the bombing rather than the religious side to the event which is what the audience may not expect to see. The audience expects to see a suicide bomber to be intimidating and violent whereas the film shows them to be ridiculous and dopey. This is important because the film challenges the stereotypes for example by showing two sides of what people think of the Islamic religion (showing muslims wanting to bomb busy locations and then showing other muslims trying to stop violence and promote peace). It could be argued that the stereotypes in this film are balanced as when there is a negative representation their is a positive representation.

A key scene within this film is when Omar and Waj go to Training camp in Pakistan. This is an important scene because it shows to the audience that the characters in the film are serious about what they want to do but then it shows that they aren't capable of doing it due to the fact they have no idea what they are doing. The scene takes a serious situation and makes it comedic to show that the characters in the film are prone to mistakes and ultimately will not achieve the goal.
Another key scene is when the main characters come to carry out the bombing. This is important because again the film turns a serious situation into something funny and comedic. During the scene when they are about to attend the marathon they are dressed up in ridiculous costumes and they start to panic because of what they are about to do. They all run off in different directions trying to make sure they reach their goals. However what is important about this scene is that the audience are unsure as to how they should react as even though it is a funny situation it is still something we shouldn't really find comedic. Also what is important about this scene is that throughout the film it was unclear if they were going to actually be able to carry out the attack but they did (even though it was not as planned).

An important micro-feature in this film is performance. The audience has to believe that the characters are serious about carrying out the bombing yet have to come across as dopey and not the brightest people. This is because it is a serious topic which has comedic elements. Also the performance also helps show the personality and the roles of the characters. From the performance we know that Omar is the leader in the group and is the most serious about the bombing. Also the audience knows that Waj is seen as the irresponsible one in the group and often doesn't make the best decisions due to his child like behaviour and personality. Barry however wants to believe that he is the leader and that he is in control. The performance of the characters are important because it helps the audience to differentiate the characters personality but also allows them to get the know the characters. Also because the film is something that should be taken seriously the odd mix of personalities and performance brings humour as the audience doesn't expect to see such unorganised people to be behind a suicide bombing.

The guardian reported that 2.1 million people have signed a petition in which they hope it will help to get a second referendum. The news report came after the UK voted to leave the EU. Research showed that the most support for a second referendum was form urban constituencies. The website for people who wanted to sign the petition crashed due to so many people trying to access it. Other reports have explained that people want a second referendum due to the fact that they were not given the right information about the consequences of leaving the EU.

In my opinion I think that there should be a second referendum because people were given false information which could have changed with the way that people voted. I think that people were falsely informed which means that with the right information the UK could have made a decision that was best suited for the country rather than voting in or out based on false information.

WEEKLY NEWS 30!!

73 people killed in Afghanistan after a fuel tanker crashes.

2 busses and a fuel tanker collided together on a main road to the capital, Kabul. 73 people were killed in the accident and 50 people were injured and were taken to hospital. BBC news reports that accidents are common of the main roads as traffic rules are rarely enforced, drivers speed and the conditions of the road are bad. The crash was caused by reckless driving. People near by helped fire fighters to control the situation and help those injured.

This is an important news story because the event could of possibly been prevented if they had stricter road traffic rules. if there were stricter rules then it means that drivers would be less likely to drive recklessly decreasing the amount of accidents that happen. In my opinion I think that the rules should be enforced more as this was a major crash. The fact that the collision involved three large vehicles means that the consequences are going to have a big impact. 73 people lost their lives and it could of been prevented.

WEEKLY NEWS 29!!

A 17-year-old girl thought to have taken ecstasy on a night out has died after suffering an adverse reaction to the drug, police have said.

BBC news reported that a 17 year old girl was taken to hospital after in Trafford taking the drug known as 'Mastercard'. She later died from taking the drug. The police have said that this is a tragic death and that they know that she is not the only one to have taken the drug. The police want people to seek medical attention if they have used this drug. The police are investigating the incident and are trying to find out how the young girl gained possession of the drugs.
The issue with this is that young people are able to get hold of drugs easily and that they don't even know what they are taking and the side effects of them. In my opinion i think the drug laws need to be stricter and the punishments more severe in order to deter people from selling and using drugs.

Exam Practice.

EXAM QUESTION:

The visual codes help the audience to know who the advert is targeted at, in this case it would be teenagers aged 16-19. In the advert we see a group of teens around the same age so we know that Nike is targeting 16-19 in particularly boys. This is important because the audience then are able to relate to the advert and become more interested in it. This is because they want to be like the boys playing football have all the Nike gear. Also the boys then start becoming famous footballers because they are able to play like them because they have the products the pros have. This goes on to another visual code.Another visual code used in this advert that help sell the Nike product is star power. Within the advert we see football stars like Ronaldo and Neymar. This is significant because it is suggesting to the audience/target market that if you were nike products you can be as good as a pro footballer. This makes the audience believe that if they have Nike products that they can be the best. Also by using big football stars the audience believe that Nike must be a really good brand if they are getting footballers to support the product. Star power is used to grab the target markets attention to the advert so they watch it and also makes them inclined to buy it.
The main audio code in the Nike advert is the non-diegetic music that is being played in the background. The reason why this is significant is because it is fast paced and up beat which reflects the action in the football game they are playing. This makes the advert seem more exciting and entertaining. A combination of the music and the crowd cheering adds to the idea that people can experience what it is like to be a pro footballer. It creates the idea that everything becomes more exciting when you wear Nike and that if you wear Nike you will become a footballer like the famous sports stars shown in the advert.
The technical codes used in the advert include fast camera movements and transitions. This links in with visual and audio codes because it also creates the idea of making everything more exciting as the fast movements shows action and a tense atmosphere like a real game of football where there are lots of things happening at once. The quick transitions make the advert more interesting as there is a lot more going on. This means that the audience will think that if they buy Nike then they will be able to achieve a lot of new and different things like becoming a skilled football player.
The Visual,Audio and Technical codes all work together to make the advert appealing to Nikes target audience. They need to make it seem as energetic and exciting as possible in order to make them interested in the advert and ultimately persuade them that the product is the best to buy.

The 2 main visual codes used in this advert are star power and colour scheme. The advert focuses on Natalie Portman who is shown to be getting ready for her wedding day. The audience will recognise Natalie Portman and will be drawn to watch the advert. The women watching the advert will aspire to be her as she is shown to be confident, strong a beautiful. This makes the female target market more inclined to buy the product. It is aimed at the aspires. The colour scheme is also important as the advert starts off in black and white. It continues to be in black and white as she walks down with her father to her soon to be husband. The black and white then turns back into normal colour as she starts to run away from her wedding. This is symbolic as it is suggesting that because she is wearing the Dior perfume she has the courage to do what she wants with her life. The change from black and white to colour reflects her mood. Everything becomes brighter when she is happy. Although we don't see the Dior Perfume (the product) until the end the audience makes a presumption that the perfume is the reason for the events unfolding. As she runs to the helicopter flower petals start falling down on to her and the colours are very feminine (shades of pale pinks) this makes it clear for the audience to see that it is aimed at women around the same age as Natalie Portman (30-35).
The audio code is also used to attract the audience. The song is 'Take another little piece of my heart" which is a very popular and well known song. This means, like the star power technique, the audience will recognise the song and will be able to relate to the advert and become more interested. The song also relates to the events in the advert as it suggesting that if she gets married it is going to break her but instead she decides to run off as it is what makes her feel better and happy. The song is recognisable to the audience and links with the advert. The song helps the advert tell the story.
The technical codes used in this advert also help to spread the message of the advert. Towards the end of the advert a lot of wide shots are used to show the beach and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This is significant to the audience that if you use the Dior perfume you can be any one you want to be and go any where you want to go. This is the message of the advert. It is suggesting that if you wear the Dior perfume your love life and relationship as Paris is known for being the city of love.
The visual, audio and technical codes used create a positive representation of women having control over their life and that the perfume can help them get what they want.
