I'm a Celebrity.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here is a British reality TV show broadcasted on ITV. It was first aired in 2002 and has been hosted by Ant and Dec since then. The TV show puts celebrities into the jungle in Australia in which they complete bizarre and grotesque tasks in order to win food and prizes. ITV usually show programmes that are more about entertainment rather than facts and I'm a Celebrity fits in with ITV's channel identity. I'm a celebrity could be argued to be part documentary as the audience is observing how the celebrities act and react within the camp. However, the majority of the show is set up as they are made to do tasks and challenges in order to get the entertainment to draw in an audience.

Audience:
In the first episode of I'm a celebrity the audience is introduced to the celebrities that are featured in the current years series. This is when the audience get to decide who they are rooting for to win. This is important because as part of the appeal and targeting the show is interactive in the sense that the audience are able to vote for their favourite celebrity to stay or to vote for the next celebrity to do the trial. By allowing the audience to vote means that it appeals to the audience because they have a say/contributions as to what happens in the show. The choice of celebrities also is important because the fans of the celebrities will be more attracted to watch the show meaning tha
t I'm a Celebrity is drawing more people in and getting the ratings they need. By having more well known celebs means a larger audience watching the show.
This show is for pure entertainment so attracts and audience who want to be entertained rather than educated. This is part of the users and gratification theory. This is significant as most TV shows are used to educate and audience but I'm a Celebrity doesn't as it is part of ITV's channel identity to show entertainment.
I'm a Celebrity doesn't have any specifically themed episodes but each time the show is aired it contains different tasks and challenges for the celebs to face. What is also significant is that I'm a Celeb is a Live show. This combined with the different tasks they face is significant when it comes to the audience because it means that it can attract a larger audience as there is a possibility that anything cold happen or go wrong during the show.

Text:
The genre of I'm a Celebrity is a mix of game show and reality. The game show genre is shown through the different trials they face and the reality part is shown when the celebrities are in the camp socialising. The genre is important as it links with the users and gratification theory as ti will draw in a their target audience.
Within the show there is a balanced ratio of women to men. This means that each gender is shown equally and doesn't enforce any gender stereotypes (the idea that men are stronger than women). Also there are a mixed ages within the group of celebrities, the oldest being 68 and the youngest 23. However in this years line up there is a clear unbalance between Race and Ethnicity. This important because the show has been diverse when it comes to age and have also had a balanced gender ratio but when it comes to race and ethnicity it is really focused on. This is important because it shows the under representation of race and ethnicity on TV.
As mentioned previously the celebrities are introduced at the start of the series. Straight away we see the establishment of characters, which is important because the audience want to know who they are going to be watching. The audience also get some history from the celebrities as they are shown what they are famous for and what they can bring to the show. This is important as again it helps the audience decide who they want to back.

Industry:
I'm a celebrity has a spin off show on ITV2 called I'm a Celebrity Extra camp. The shows presenters are three previous winners of I'm a celebrity (Joe Swash, Stacey Solomon and Vicky Patterson) along with a fourth presenter, comedian Chris Ramsey. The spin off shows include extra details about the years I'm a Celeb contestants and also show the presenters taking part in some of the trials previously seen on I'm a Celeb. This is significant because it means that the audience are able to get more of the show when it has finished. They are drawing in more viewers and making more money as people are switching channels to catch more of I'm a celeb.

AMY!!

Amy.

Key Cast: Amy Winehouse. Mitch Wine House, Tyler James
Director: Asif Kapadia
Genre: Documentary
Themes: Addiction, Music, Death, Fame
Release: July 2015
Budget: $2.3-$3.1 million

Key Scene:
A key scene in this film is when Amy was in an interview and she said "The only thing I am good for is singing". This is important because from the previous parts of the documentary the audience see that it was the fame that caused her to go on a downwards spiral. This quote and the scene shows that she never wanted the fame and all she wanted was to sing and make music. This makes the audience feel sympathy for Amy as we know that the media played a massive part (negative) in her life and her story. It showed that she never really wanted fame but was sucked into it.
Another key scene is when she won the grammy for best record of the year in 2008. The audience gets to see her reaction and her response to winning the Grammy. Originally she looks completely stunned by the fact that she won and then goes on to thank and hug everyone around her. This is important because it is a major award and she was up against other big names. However, when the audience is told behind the scenes that Amy was not as happy as she appeared, again we feel sympathy. She says that without drugs that the event is boring. We feel sympathy because she should be happy that she won a major award but instead all she can think about is drugs. Her life was taken over by her addiction with drugs and alcohol.

What is important about the documentary 'Amy' is that it highlights a major issue as it shows the viewers the other side of fame. Fame is made out to be amazing as you can get and do what ever you want and you have loads of fans. However, this documentary shows that it's not all great and that the media can be harsh towards celebrities. The videos gathered in this documentary showing the paparazzi harassing Amy and people making fun out of the problems she was facing shows the negative side of fame. We see how the media, fame and parts of her family and friends failed her which makes us feel more sympathetic as the audience sees the negative events leading up to her death. The film shows the destructive nature of fame by showing the negative impact it had on Amy Winehouse.

WEEKLY NEWS 10!!

The Killer the Police Missed.

BBC news looked at the serial killer Stephen Port who managed to trick the police into thinking he was not responsible for the deaths of four men.
In the summer of 2014, the bodies of two men were found in a church yard in the space of three weeks. The men were both in their 20's and were gay. The bodies were positioned in the same way in the grave yard but the deaths were considered as non-suspicious by the police. They ruled it as a suicide as there was a note explaining that Gabriel Kovari had died after an overdose an then Daniel Whitworth had taken drugs to end his life.
However, a year later, Jack Taylor's body was found in the same circumstances. But the connection between these three cases was the body of Anthony Walgate who was died before any of the others who was found 500m from the church outside the flat of Stephen Port. Port had managed to trick the police with a cover up that should have been easily figured out by the police.
The police did question Port and took DNA samples but no further action was taken and the death was not treated as a murder.
This news story is important because it shows how a serial killer managed to easily trick the police into thinking that he had nothing to do with the murders. It could be argued that the police did not fully investigate the death of Walgate which meant Port was able to go on to kill three other men. If Port was caught sooner the deaths would have been avoided.

Channel Identities.

BBC One:
BBC One is funded by the people paying TV Licenses which therefore means they don't have to have advertisements on the channel because they don't need to make money to fund them like other channels do. They are a non-commercial channel.

BBC Two:
It is also a non-commercial channel and is self funded like BBC One. The shows shown on BBC Two are often spin offs from BBC One shows such as Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. BBC Two is also shows 'High Brow' shows such as documentaries which is used to attract and older audience.

ITV:
Unlike BBC One/Two, ITV is a commercial channel, meaning that they are funded by businesses/companies paying for their adverts to be shown. ITV doesn't follow the educational remit like BBC one and Two do as it usually focuses on more the entertainment side rather than factual.

Channel Four:
Channel Four also relies on advertising as to fund the channel. The channel aims themselves at a younger audience as they show content that aren't usually shown on other channels such as Sex box. They also usually try to make this content educational as to give the shows purpose.

Channel five:
Channel five is a more formal than channel four. Channel five shows crime programmes and some American shows in order to grab the attention of a different audience that all the channels listed above don't necessarily reach.

Netflix:
Netflix differs from the other TV channels listed as it is not really classed as a TV channel as it is shown online. However, Netflix still provides films and TV shows just like the other channels do. Netflix buy the films or TV shows  in order to be allowed to show them. Netflix buy the most popular films or shows to draw in a audience so that they subscribe to Netflix. This is how Netflix is funded.

WEEKLY NEWS 9!!

Suicide attack in Afghanistan kills dozen

BBC news have reported a suicide bomber has killed at least 27 people at a Shia Muslim mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul. There were at least 35 other people where injured in the attack which came as worshippers gathered for a religious ceremony. The attacker blew himself up in the crowded area towards the end of a service for Imam Hussein. IS has said to be behind the attack that took place on Monday. Many people were praying right before the explosion took place and witnesses said that there was a loud bang followed by a dust cloud.
This is an important news story because BBC news has also reported that the attack that took place on Monday is part of a string of attacks including a mass shooting killing 14 people and another suicide bombing which killed 80 people.

Media Proposal.

Media Proposal

Statement: The representation of women within music videos objectify and over-sexualise women (with reference to 'Blurred Lines'- Robin Thicke, 'Not the Only One'- Sam Smith and 'Bad Blood'- Taylor Swift).

Last Year: Created a poster and dvd cover for my film 'Blonde'

Production Plan: Create a music video that focuses on the representation of women. In my research I found out that most music videos use women's body image and looks to represent women. Using this, I want to create a music video focusing on body image.
My plan for my music video, it will only feature women as that is a main part in my project. I also plan to follow the idea that women are forced to look a certain way, so in my music video I will mask parts of the subject's body, by using images that are considered to be the perfect body type (e.g using barbies face and/or pictures of the 'perfect body'. This will back up my point that most music videos focus on body image. At the beginning of the music video I will follow the general negative depiction of women by focusing on body image, however, I also plan to go against what is seen in most music videos by making the depiction of women more positive by discarding all the negative images that have already been used. I want  to show both sides to the representation of women.

My music video won't have a set narrative. Although it will show the progression of women, there is no clear story line behind it. Instead I will use a series of the same shots but showing different people. The shots wont be stills but there will be little movement or acting within them until the music video starts to become more positive. This will show the progression.

I plan to spend a week for each of the stages (pre-production, production and post-production) but I think that the editing may take a bit longer as there will be a lot of clips to edit and put together.

WEEKLY NEWS 8!!

Protests in Manhattan.

BBC news reported on the protests taking place in Manhattan following the news that Donald Trump has become the 45th President of the United States. Roughly 2,000 people are marching through the streets of New York shouting 'He is not my President'. BBC news also reported that American cities have seen nightly protests by people furious at the new Presidents controversial policies. Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton was a shock after opinion polls favoured Mrs Clinton in becoming the next President. Donald Trump has been responding to some of the issues the protestors have brought forward, saying he is open to leave key parts of 'Obama Care' and has also said that e will focus on more important priorities such as healthcare and border control.

The news report based on the protest is important because there has been allot of controversy based around the election and the people running for the Presidential role. It was clear that there was a divide between voters and that there would be some issues no matter who was elected to become the next President of the United States.

WEEKLY NEWS 7!!

US election: America votes for president.

More than 46 million people have voted to chose the next president of America. According to BBC news, this years election has been the most hostile, due to all the controversy surrounding the candidates running to be the next president. Mrs Clinton urged voters to back a " Hopeful, inclusive, big hearted America'. Whilst Trump told supporters that they have a 'chance to beat the corrupt system'. Clinton has a four point lead over Trump and a high number of hispanics have turned up to vote, presumably in favour of Mrs Clinton.
I think that the presidential news is important to keep up with as the candidates running have both had controversy spread about them and it has created a divide between people. The past news of the run up to the election has highlighted a lot of negative impacts including hate crimes and violence towards certain supporters. Who ever becomes president will have a massive impact on America and possibly the rest of the world.

GOGGLEBOX

Gogglebox.

Gogglebox is a British T.V show, shown on Channel 4 since 2013. The show looks at couples and families reacting to current television programs. The T.V show is set in the living rooms of the families and captures the thoughts and opinions from various different people of different race, ethnicity, gender and class. The show is a form of observational documentary as the camera only captures what unfolds in front of it. Even though the setting may be planned and the people know they are being filmed, nothing is scripted allowing the audience to see real life reactions.

The show reaches a large target audience as it can appeal to everyone as most people can relate to the scenarios that we see on the show. It appeals to a mass target because there are universal themes within the show. Gogglebox also show the reactions to some of the most popular TV shows including X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. This again adds makes the audience more interested in Gogglebox because they can see whether they agree or disagree with the people on the show. Gogglebox is filmed a week in advanced so that the audience can watch people reacting to the latest programs and news. This makes it more relevant for the audience because they are showing current topics which everyone are talking about.

In the episodes of Gogglebox, we are introduced to the family by first seeing the outside of the house. This gives the audience an idea of the different families included in the show. The idea behind the show is for the audience to watch people reacting to TV. However, the concept of the show may sound boring to some of the audience, so they add personalities in, which makes it more interesting to watch. By showing the houses of the people the audience is about to meet, shows them that they are using real people and families all of whom are different. The personality aspect to the show allows the audience to relate to the people they are seeing.
The characters we also see on Gogglebox are all very diverse. The characters include: and elderly husband and wife, a gay couple and a posh upper class family. BY having a diverse range of people on the show means that the audience is bound to be able to relate to certain people on the show. It also means that the audience can hear the opinions of different generations, backgrounds and class.

The show won a BAFTA award in 2014 and a national television award in 2015.

Scheduling.

Scheduling.

Scheduling: Arrange or plan (an event) to take place at a particular time.

Scheduling allows tv shows to plan in advance when they are going to show their tv shows. The schedules are not just important for TV itself but for the audience to have a clear layout and plan as to what they can watch when.

Scheduling is important when it comes to tv because they need to be made in order to fit the individual tv shows target audience. For example, popular soaps such as Eastenders and Coronation street are targeted at an older working class audience, which means that they have to be shown at a time when people get off work and are at home. However, a tv soap still has to compete with other tv soaps meaning that the schedule has to be based around when the audience will watch them. Television programmes have to predict which programmes viewers might watch in blocks (watching one show and going into another after the previous one is finished). By having a schedule based around when an audience will most likely watch a programme means that the show is getting as many viewers as possible. The aim in constructing the schedule is to secure the highest possible amount of viewer for each tv show on different channels and network. It could be a big issue if the scheduling is wrong as it wouldn't reach the correct target audience meaning that the show/programme won't get the viewers it needs to be successful.

Tv schedules are also based around advertisements. A lot of businesses will want to advertise their products/service during the advert breaks between popular tv shows. The advertising slots will be made months in advanced so that the tv network can make the most money. This links with scheduling because if the schedule is correct and can reach the majority of their target audience, advertisers will want to pay more money to get the slot where more people are likely to see the ad. With this money from the advertisements, the tv networks can make or buy more shows to put on their channel and gain an even larger audience, which will again generate more money.

Hammocking- Putting a new, or less popular show on between two popular shows, so that the viewers watching the first tv show watch the less popular or new tv show waiting to watch the next program.
Inheritance- Putting a new or less popular tv show after a popular program hoping that the viewers will stay on the channel and continue watching the new or less popular show.
Stripping- When a program is shown at the same time each day. This is often used for talk shows or shows like NCIS or Criminal Minds.
