AMY!!

Amy.

Key Cast: Amy Winehouse. Mitch Wine House, Tyler James
Director: Asif Kapadia
Genre: Documentary
Themes: Addiction, Music, Death, Fame
Release: July 2015
Budget: $2.3-$3.1 million

Key Scene:
A key scene in this film is when Amy was in an interview and she said "The only thing I am good for is singing". This is important because from the previous parts of the documentary the audience see that it was the fame that caused her to go on a downwards spiral. This quote and the scene shows that she never wanted the fame and all she wanted was to sing and make music. This makes the audience feel sympathy for Amy as we know that the media played a massive part (negative) in her life and her story. It showed that she never really wanted fame but was sucked into it.
Another key scene is when she won the grammy for best record of the year in 2008. The audience gets to see her reaction and her response to winning the Grammy. Originally she looks completely stunned by the fact that she won and then goes on to thank and hug everyone around her. This is important because it is a major award and she was up against other big names. However, when the audience is told behind the scenes that Amy was not as happy as she appeared, again we feel sympathy. She says that without drugs that the event is boring. We feel sympathy because she should be happy that she won a major award but instead all she can think about is drugs. Her life was taken over by her addiction with drugs and alcohol.

What is important about the documentary 'Amy' is that it highlights a major issue as it shows the viewers the other side of fame. Fame is made out to be amazing as you can get and do what ever you want and you have loads of fans. However, this documentary shows that it's not all great and that the media can be harsh towards celebrities. The videos gathered in this documentary showing the paparazzi harassing Amy and people making fun out of the problems she was facing shows the negative side of fame. We see how the media, fame and parts of her family and friends failed her which makes us feel more sympathetic as the audience sees the negative events leading up to her death. The film shows the destructive nature of fame by showing the negative impact it had on Amy Winehouse.
