Great British Bake Off

Great British Bake Off. (GBBO)

GBBO is a weekly TV show, shown Mid-week at 20:00. 10.4 million people watched the first episode of 2016 making it the most watched series opener in the shows history. A further 4.1 million people then stayed on to watch the Chronicles of Nadia on BBC1 which is hosted by Nadia the winner of last years GBBO.

In the first episode of series 7, the audience is introduced to the new competitors of the GBBO. Eight out of the 12 of them are white and the other 3 are from other backgrounds. This could be to show that they are trying to make GBBO more diverse but yet there is still an unbalance as there are also white presenters and judges. Because of the title of the show is ' Great British Bakeoff', the show is trying to show stereotypical British things. Through out the episodes of GBBO there are bunting flags with the Union Jack on them to try and enforce the idea that the show is proudly British. Also the place in which GBBO is filmed is a country side with bright green grass and lots of colourful flowers to create the idea that this is what the whole of Britain looks like. It is following the stereotypes that people think about Britain (which is posh and elegant).

The target audience for this show is around 20-30 year old women. This is because baking is a traditionally and stereotypically a female interest/activity although we see men on the show. The GBBO includes global themes and interests so the show could appeal to everyone but throughout the show there are references to mature jokes (references to page 3 jokes). The 20-30 year old audience are likely to pick up on the jokes and references unlike a younger or older audience. However even though the target audience is 20-30 year olds women doesn't mean it attracts a different audience.

WEEKLY NEWS 2!!

North Carolina police shoot a black man after wife tells them not to shoot.

BBC news released a video of Keith Scott being shot by North Carolina Police after his wife Rakeyia Scott recorder the event begging the police not to shoot. The police where searching for another person wanted for arrest and there are conflicts about the events that led up to the death of Keith Scott. In the video the police asked Keith to drop the gun he was holding whereas his wife insisted that he did not have a gun. Following this death, people protested and chanted 'No justice, No peace'. Protestors have asked for the police dash cams to be released to the public so people can see what really happened but the police have defended themselves on why the video should not be released. This is one of many other serious cases where police are being accused of wrong full killing.

In my opinion, I think that there is a problem in America especially over gun laws and police corruption. Recently, there has been a massive increase in the amount of incidents that have taken place regarding the police and black males. I think that the police in America are abuse their power but also aren't given the right training to deal with situations similar to this one.

Weekly News 1!!

Penalty points and fines are to double for texting drivers.

BBC news along with other news reporters have reported that there is to be a more harsh punishment for people who text and drive. This is after many families who are victims of texting and driving have complained that the punishment didn't go far enough for the people who broke the law. The new rules that are due to be enforced within the next year will mean drivers will receive six points on their licence an a £200 fine.
In this BBC news report it also includes stories from people who have been affected by people driving and texting. One story included, was about a man who was jailed for nine years after admitting to death by dangerous driving. He has also had 6 previous convictions to do with texting and driving. This indicates that the punishment for breaking texting and driving was not severe enough to deter people from doing it again.

In my opinion I that the punishment for texting and driving needs to be more harsh as it can cause as much damage as drink driving can. People think that looking at their phone for a few seconds wont cause any problems but from the stories on the BBC news website shows otherwise. The punishment needs to be more severe so that people know that texting and driving is a serious offence and that it is dangerous. If the punishment doesn't have a big consequence it wont stop people from doing it. I agree with the new rule that the punishment should be doubled.
