WEEKLY NEWS 13!!

WEEKLY NEWS 13

BBC news reported on the floods that have destroyed peoples homes in Cumbria. Cumbria faced flooding earlier on this year and have now suffered a second one. People's homes have been badly affected by the flooding as some people have said that it is the worst they have ever seen.
Flood defense systems were put in place but the flooding was so bad that it managed to get past the defenses causing massive amounts of damage. Heavy rain has still brought more flooding after it was hit by storm Desmond, causing the banks to over spill.
I think that people need to know about news similar to this as people want to help others who are facing the situation. People want to find out ways to help so that they can try and improve the problem. In my opinion I think that the defense systems should have been stronger and people should have been more prepared because Cumbria have seen floods like this before, so they should want to do everything they can to stop it from happening again.

It is important for the news to report stories like this because as not only is it a part of British History it is also a massive achievement. People want to hear about positive stories, this being one of them. Andy Murray is one of Britain's big names in sport, so people are interested in what he has achieved because he is representing the country.

Gone Girl Analysis.

Gone Girl.

Key Cast: Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck
Director: David Fincher
Writer: Gillian Flynn
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Themes: Murder, Mystery, Relationships, Family
Release: October 2014
Budget: $61,000,000

After his wife disappears, Nick Dunne becomes the focus of the police investigation as all the evidence points to him being his wife's killer even though he insists that he is innocent.

One of the most important scenes within the film is shown right at the very end where Amy Dunne is in the hospital being question by all the police along with the lead investigator of the case. In the scene it shows Amy Dunne explaining her version of the story of what happened to her. In this scene the lead officer, detective Rhonda Boney, is trying to ask her about the expensive "goods" that was found in Margo's shed. Amy tries to ignore the question by continuing with the story. She avoids the question because she has no answer. This is important as none of the other police officers are asking about the things that don't add up. They see her as the victim and they do not think that she has anything to hide. Because they think that they know what she is like, they do not question her role within the crime. This shows that she has managed to manipulate everyone into thinking that she is the victim. This is an important scene as it shows that the police want an easy way out of it. They have been given an explanation into the event but fail to look deeper into it.

This scene is followed by the husband talking to one of the officers in the case about the event. Nick questions how she manages to escape but the officer replies "cant you just be happy that your wife is back". The officer thought that the husband was behind the disappearance, so when the husband comments on the strange event the officer dismisses what he has to say. The police are ignoring the evidence as they believe what the wife says even though the event is far-fetched. This is important as it shows that because she was portrayed in the media as kind and loving, everyone doesn't know the other side of her personality. Everyone feel sympathetic towards Amy so they don't question what happened to her because they don't feel as if she would lie about the event as she has no reason to. Because they believed that the husband was behind the wife's disappearance they do not fully trust him, so when he questions his wife's story the police are annoyed that he his not happy that his wife is back. The husband doesn't trust the wife but the police do (all except Rhonda Boney).

Micro-features:
Performance is important in this film especially towards the end of the film. When Amy returns home, she desperately has to become the perfect wife to back up her story and take away suspicion from her husband, Nick. Because she is the focus of the media she has to become the sweetheart everybody thinks she is. This is important as it shows how she is able to turn on and off her sadistic personality. The performance is important in this film because it is used to trick both the people in the film and the audience. This achieves this by showing the nicer side of Amy at the beginning of the film by showing her to be a caring and kind. This sets up the film as it makes the audience question why she has disappeared and why anyone would want to harm her, ultimately forcing the blame on the husband. Then towards the end of the film the audience sees her sadistic, evil side by the film showing how the events unfolded. It shows that she she has meticulously planned her disappearance and death in order to get back at her husband. This makes the reveal all that more twisted as no one could believe that such an innocent person could be so deceiving.

Overall, this film achieves its desired affect of surprising the audience as they go to see the film expecting to see what the beginning of the film gives them, which is a classic missing persons story when in fact the ending is completely different and unexpected.

WEEKLY NEWS 10!!

Diesel the Police Dog, who died after being blown up by a female suicide bomber during a firefight with suspected ISIS militants behind the Paris massacre

BBC news and The Mirror has reported that a police dog was killed in Paris after the police raided an apartment. The dog "Diesel" was killed after a bomb was detonated.
Russia has since announced that they will be sending over a new puppy to the police in France "in an act of solidarity". Russia have said that they are ready to cooperate against crime and terrorism.

130 people died in the Paris attack that took place last Friday and many more were injured. Police are still carrying out raids looking for any one who was involved in the attacks or any one who has information.

I think it is good that Russia are showing their support as it shows to people that other countries are standing up against terrorists and helping people who have been affected by previous attacks.

Christmas Adverts.

In these three Christmas adverts, they all are trying to achieve the same goal, which is to get customers to buy products from their stores. All the adverts have the common theme of friendship which is a category in Users and Gratification (Audience Theory) because the majority of people want to make new friendships. In the Sainsbury's 2015 advert it shows how people come together to help others to improve their Christmas. In the John Lewis Advert it shows a girl desperately trying to make friends with the man on the moon by sending him a gift for Christmas. And in the Sainsbury's 2014 advert it shows how people put their differences aside for Christmas. The reason why these adverts show the idea of friendship around Christmas is because it is supposed to be the time of year when everyone gets together. Sainsbury's and John Lewis use Christmas as a selling point. The audience is supposed to feel connected with the people in the advert so that they feel tempted to buy products.
The adverts also use the Hypodermic Needle theory to get people to buy their products. Within the John Lewis adverts, everything within the frame you can buy from John Lewis. This suggests to the audience that if you want the perfect Christmas, you have to go to John Lewis. This is injecting the idea that the audience has to spend allot of money at Christmas to make it perfect. This puts the audience in a position where they are encouraged to spend money.
In both of the Sainsbury's advert they constantly push the idea of friendship onto the audience as it shows to the audience that they believe the idea that Christmas is about being kind to others. Although the advert is not showing the audience what products they can buy the audience still want to go to Sainsbury's as they agree with the message that Sainsbury's are sending out. They are being sent subliminal messages to make them tempted to spend money.

WEEKLY NEWS 9!!

BBC news and several other media reported on the terror attack in Paris which took place on Friday the 13th. 129 people were killed after several attacks over Paris. About 100 people were taken hostage at the Bataclan where a concert was taken place. Majority of the deaths occurred there Also, small restaurants and bars were targeted. Isis have announced that they were behind the attack on Friday which was a few days after Jihadi John was killed by an air strike.

This is the 2nd terrorist attack in Paris this year after the Charlie Hebdo shootings in January. This raises major concern about the security in Paris. Army's from across Europe are helping out in France. Today (Sunday) a memorial service was held for the people who were affected by the shootings. recent support shows that there was a false alarm at the memorial where people started to run away in fear. People are still worried about the possibility of another attack, which lead to the chaotic event at the memorial. People in Paris don't feel safe at the moment which is understandable.

In my opinion I think that Paris should improve its security. Because of this being the second attack, Security should be increased as there is a high possibility that they could become a target again. Overall I think that all countries should take extra precautions and improve their security due to the rise in attacks.

Thriller Poster ideas!!

Poster ideas!!

I would use the colour isolating effect that is used in the film sin city. Because the title of the film is called Blonde, I want to isolate the colour of the hair (blonde) by making it brighter and making the background black and white. This is clear that it is a thriller because most of the poster is in black and white which is dark and scary.

In Winter's Bone I like the overlay effect of the two images. I could use this on my poster to show both the main character and where the film would be set. The colours used are very dark using black and blues. This shows to the audience that the film is gloomy. The audience knows that it is a thriller due to the expression of the protagonist  and the setting of the film.

Allot of the thriller movie posters include close ups of a face (usually the main character). This is used to make the poster more intense making the audience aware that it is a thriller film. Also the posters tend to have dark shadows which makes the poster more bold. I could use this effect by creating dark shadows in my poster.
In this film poster it shows what we can assume is the protagonist of the film. The main colour in the poster is white which is a contrast to the genre of the film. The colour white symbolises purity but this goes against the genre of the film being a thriller because it is supposed to trick the audience. The audience are unsure who the villain is. Also the film follows the conventions of a thriller posters of showing the protagonists face. This makes it more appealing to the audience as the protagonist os looking straight at the viewer.

The film poster for shutter island uses dark shadows and colours to make it clear that it is a thriller as it follows the thriller conventions. The double exposure used in this poster shows both the location and the protagonist (presumably). The fact that the protagonists face is lit by the match is holding, suggests that the film is set in a dark and gloomy place. The shadows on his face makes the film poster more mysterious as  the audience is not sure what is going on.

The Gone Girl poster is a bit different from the other film posters because the colour scheme is different. The colours on the poster start of black and then fade to light blue and white. This doesn't automatically show to the audience that the film is a thriller. The thing that makes it clear that it is a thriller is the fact that the title is not 100% visible.

WEEKLY NEWS 8!!

Britain's most injured soldiers lay wreaths in Remembrance Sunday 2015 services

The Daily Mail reported that the 2 of Britain's most injured soldiers laid wreaths down in honour of other fallen soldiers. The Daily mail reported that both soldiers were emotional at the time of the event but glad that they had been there too pay their respects. The Daily Mail also reported several stories about remembrance Sunday all over the country including Jeremy Corbyn's appearance which was "mocked" by allot of people. Remembrance day is always big news as it is an old tradition. People want to hear about it and what is happening.

News like this is important to share as it shows recognition for soldiers who have died or have been injured in the line of war. It is also shows the sacrifices people have made for others. Audience also want to read about these kinds of stories as it shows that people who in fought in war have not been forgotten.

Censorship

Censorship.

Censorship: Is the process of hiding/covering inappropriate objects, behaviour or language. An example of censorship is the beeping out of swear words on TV programs. The media cover up swear words on the TV as it is deemed inappropriate for possible viewers. Watershed is a type of censorship as it controls what is shown on TV at certain times. Before 9 pm certain images and languages are covered but after 9 pm TV shows are allowed to shows swearing and non blurred out images.

I think that we do need censorship as it protects vulnerable people. Censorship does not just apply to the media, but on certain products. They have age restrictions on products like cigarettes and alcohol. Censorship in the media is especially important as it tells viewers what type of content is in the film/TV show. If the film/TV show has an age limit of 16, people know that there is content within the film/TV show is not suitable for children younger so they should not watch it. Also by warning the audience about things like violent scenes and flashing images is important as the audience know what to expect from the film, so they can decide if it is suitable for them or others. I think censorship is important as it is a guide line to what people should be able able to view. Without these guide lines can affect vulnerable people.

Censorship is controlled by the government, as they decide what they think is appropriate and what is inappropriate to sow on TV. This is important as the government controls what we see. This could be seen negatively as people may think that the government are controlling what information they hear. The government could be feeding us false information. The government controlling censorship could also be seen as positive as it means that the are controlling TV to keep people safe from inappropriate images.

Russian jet crash investigation: The key question
BBC news reported that "investigators are turning their attention to the flight records" in order to find out more about what cause the plane to crash. So far, they have reported that the plane had exploded/broke in mid air. Suspicions are being raised as some believe that it could have been apart of a terrorist attack. It has been said that ISIS could have been involved in the downing of the plane. This causes major concern for leaders across the world.
One of the two black boxes retrieved from the wreckage of the Russian plane that crashed in Egypt

224 people died in the plane which crashed over Sinai Peninsula (Egypt).BBC news also had an interview with President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi where he said it was too early to say what caused the crash and he also said that people should not jump to conclusions.

Investigators are examining the black box to see what caused the crash. Reporters also say that the on flight recordings show that there were unusual sounds before the plane crashed.
