Gogglebox.

Gogglebox is a British T.V show, shown on Channel 4 since 2013. The show looks at couples and families reacting to current television programs. The T.V show is set in the living rooms of the families and captures the thoughts and opinions from various different people of different race,ethnicity,gender and class. The show is a form of observational documentary as the camera only captures what unfolds in front of it. Even though the setting may be planned and the people know they are being filmed, nothing is scripted allowing the audience to see real life reactions.

The show reaches a large target audience as it can appeal to everyone as most people can relate to the scenarios that we see on the show. It appeals to a mass target because there are universal themes within the show. Gogglebox also show the reactions to some of the most popular TV shows including X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. This again adds makes the audience more interested in Gogglebox because they can see whether they agree or disagree with the people on the show. Gogglebox is filmed a week in advanced so that the audience can watch people reacting to the latest programs and news. This makes it more relevant for the audience because they are showing current topics which everyone are talking about.

In the episodes of Gogglebox, we are introduced to the family by first seeing the outside of the house. This gives the audience an idea of the different families included in the show. The idea behind the show is for the audience to watch people reacting to TV. However, the concept of the show may sound boring to some of the audience, so they add personalities in, which makes it more interesting to watch. By showing the houses of the people the audience is about to meet, shows them that they are using real people and families all of whom are different. The personality aspect to the show allows the audience to relate to the people they are seeing.
The characters we also see on Gogglebox are all very diverse. The characters include: and elderly husband and wife, a gay couple and a posh upper class family. BY having a diverse range of people on the show means that the audience is bound to be able to relate to certain people on the show. It also means that the audience can hear the opinions of different generations, backgrounds and class.

The show won a BAFTA award in 2014 and a national television award in 2015.
