WEEKLY NEWS 19!!

The BAFTA'S!!

At the BAFTA's the best film went to the Revenant (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) and it also went away with four more awards making it the highest amount received that night. The best actress award went to Brie Larson and best animated film went to Inside out. Although the award ceremony was the most important part of the event, Rebel Wilsons speech stole the show.

The Guardian reported on the speech that Rebel gave quoting her saying 'Ive never been invited to the BAFTA's because they are racist'. Whilst some people thought that the speech was offensive, the guardian reported it in a positive way suggesting that she brought some light to the BAFTA's. There were protests outside of the BAFTA's about the diversity issues at these award shows, but the event continued and Rebel showed that she was aware of the issue but chose to make a joke about it to make the event less serious and more about the people winning the awards rather than the protesters.

In my opinion I think that the speech positively impacted the BAFTA's because it showed that some people are reacting differently to the issue. Even though Rebel is receiving some hate for her speech at the BAFTA's, I thought it was really funny as she didn't directly offend any one but she just made a few jokes about the situation.
