Russia May Ban Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Over Josh Gad’s Gay Character.
According to an article on IMDb, The Russian government is under pressure when it comes to the new live action film 'Beauty and the Beast' as it allegedly goes against a 2013 law in which it prohibits 'gay propaganda' aimed at children. In the film Josh gad's character has a crush on Luke Evan's character which is causing some problems for Russia as it is a controversial issue. The film is set to be released mid March this year and features many well known stars including: Emma Watson, Ewan McGreggor and Emma Thompson.
This is an important news issues because of the issue that it has raised in Russia. Not yet in a Disney film have we seen as homosexual relationship, so by having one featured in a big new film could be a good thing or a bad thing. It shows that same sex relationships are becoming more normal and accepted than they have been, but also still highlights a controversial issue that in some places is still not accepted.
In my opinion I can see why the relationship in the film could be an issue as the film is aimed at children but I could also see how it could be a good thing as it is showing development within disney films and representing a different group of people than disney is used to showing.
